BEING THE COMMUNIQUE AT THE END OF A ONE DAY FORUM
FOR WOMEN DEVELOPMENT AND EFFECTIVE WOMEN PARTICIPATION AND INVLOVEMENT IN
POLITICS
· Whereas at a one day forum on Women Development and Effective Women Participation and Involvement in Politics organized by Women and Youth Development Initiatives.
· Whereas participants observed that Women Development and Participation in politics is grossly inadequate and that adequate attention has not been given to improve the situation.
· That charity begins at home and women training should start from home.
Therefore, Participants resolved as follows:
(a) That the Girl Child and Women in general should be encouraged to have access to free and qualitative education at all levels.
(b) That our Government at the three tiers should improve health care delivery especially at the primary level and provide free medical care for pregnant women to reduce to the barest minimum maternal death and morbidity in Nigeria.
(c) The participants resolved to advocate for justice ability of chapter 2, section13-21 of the Nigeria constitution 1999 constitution and that the protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Report (ACHPR) that promotes Women Development be domesticated.
(d) That the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination and Violence against Women be localized taking into cognizance the Nigerian culture and Environment.
(e) It advocated that women should tolerate and encourage themselves for self development and effective participation in politics.
(f) That female political office holders and leaders should create friendly environment for other women.
(g) That competent women should come out to participate actively in politics.
(h) Rights Based Participation and Equity should be our political philosophy to provide level playing ground for women.
(i) Seminars, Workshops, Trainings should be regularly organized to educate women and encourage them to participate in politics.
(j) Participants strongly call for Political Will on the part of our various Governments to allow for Women Development and Effective Political Participation.
